Rover Shorts for Kids Size 18m-14
While this pattern might look complicated, they really are not a difficult sew. To get a good looking pair of pants, it is all in the fit and details. You can make a simplified version of the pattern for a classic pant that can be dressed up or down, or use all of the pockets for a cool tactical pant look.
This pattern is designed to be semi fitted through the hip and thigh with a straight slim cut leg. All kiddos have different shapes, even within the same size. My twins have the most different legs I have ever seen - one has knobby twigs and the other muscular herculean thighs. So, you may need some basic alterations to get a perfect fit.
The pants length should hit at the top of the foot, and the shorts should hit just below the knee. Please pay attention to the inseam length in the size chart when determining which length you should cut. You can go with a longer length and cuff the jeans for an alternate look and more longevity to the life of the pants.
Topstitching - topstitching is SOOOOOO important to giving pants a really polished look. It is where you stitch on top of your seams. We will be topstitching everything - I'm not kidding!
This pattern has two waistband options:
Encased Elastic Waistband - this option has a faux fly, non shaped back yoke, and straight waistband with elastic. This version can be pulled on and off and can be made with an optional front drawstring. This is a great option for confident beginners. The Waistband measurements can be found in the chart on page 5 or on the front pattern piece.
Contoured Waistband and Functioning Fly - this option has a functioning zip fly and button close contoured waistband. You can optionally add button tab elastic with this option to make an adjustable fit without needing to wear a belt. This option can be sewn by confident beginners ready to expand their sewing skills.
